U.S. Approves $1.6 Billion Weapons-Ready MQ-9B Drone Sale to Australia

The U.S. has accepted a potential sale to Australia of Armed-Reconnaissance MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Plane (RPA) and associated gear for an estimated value of $1.651 billion, the Protection Safety Cooperation Company (DSCA) Friday delivered certification notifying Congress of the proposed sale.

The sale consists of six KMU-572 Joint Direct Assault Munitions (JDAM) tail kits for 500lb bombs; 4 MXU-650 Airfoil Teams for 500lb Paveway II GBU-12; seven MXU-1006 Airfoil Teams for 250lb Paveway II GBU-58; 4 MAU-169 or MAU-209 Pc Management Teams for 250lb/500lb Paveway II GBU-58/GBU-12; six FMU-139 Fuse Techniques moreover 12 MK-82 Basic Function 500lb inert bombs and 5 Excessive Bandwidth Compact Telemetry Modules.

The principal contractors shall be Basic Atomic Aeronautical Techniques Inc., Lockheed Martin Inc., Raytheon Inc., and Leonardo SpA. The purchaser sometimes requests offsets. Any offset settlement shall be outlined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor(s).
